TONY Mowbray yesterday responded to criticism of Hibernian over Rangers' abortive attempt to sign Derek Riordan by insisting that the Scottish champions had been "miles short" of matching his club's valuation of the international striker.

On a day which featured bizarre innuendoes in some media quarters that Hibs had virtually been guilty of criminal behaviour by rejecting Rangers' advances, Mowbray, with characteristic tranquility, dismantled one or two widespread misconceptions.
