WHAT can begin to explain the senseless shooting horror that has left 13 dead and 25 injured across Cumbria? It is a bloodbath that defies reason. Because of that, the shock is altogether magnified.

Close relatives and families of the victims cannot begin to comprehend a massacre that had, as far as we can tell, no cause for its beginning or any rational progression. Random, senseless and indiscriminate: how can their worlds be put together after a murder spree such as this?
