KILDARY in Easter Ross is not the sort of village normally assoc- iated with a revolution. Typical of many villages north of the Highland line, it is a quiet and attractive place, known to many travellers as the home of the famous Ken's Garage, which is a landmark on the A9 Inverness to Thurso road.

Kildary borders on the Balnagown estate owned by Mohamed Al Fayed, the owner of Harrods and someone not unknown to the media and general public. Yet it is Kildary rather than its famous neighbour which has recently been attracting attention, including visits from government ministers and ecology experts keen to see a housing development which could help change the way many Scots live.
