CALL it female intuition or a mother's gut feeling, but Lorraine Melrose knew there was something not right. She had dropped off her two-year-old son Shaun at nursery school countless times before without incident, but now even a passing reference to the place left the boy panic-stricken and begging his mother not to leave him.
