W HAT two momentous events are now famously linked to 2012? The first is the sporting extravaganza, the Olympic Games, to be held in Britain for the first time in 64 years. And the second is that rises in the basic state pension will again go up in line with earnings increases, for the first time since the link was changed to price increases in 1980. But the penalty is that the retirement age will increase to 68 from 65 between 2024 and 2046.
