According to the service, Edinburgh Community Mediation (ECM), noise remains the biggest bone of contention in disputes between neighbours.

With a large number of young, single professionals, in addition to students, concentrated in the inner city this is hardly surprising. There is good reason to suspect, however, that domestic noise is an increasing cause of complaint in suburban areas, both in Edinburgh and elsewhere in Scotland. Consumer bodies' surveys frequently suggest that the issue is one of the biggest single motivators for moving house.
