BUDGE Pountney was considering a dramatic return to international rugby before yesterday announcing his decision to retire completely from the game due to injury.
The former Scotland captain suffered a broken ankle in a pre- season match for Northampton Saints at Cardiff on the same weekend Scotland lost a World Cup warm-up match with Wales in September. He expected to return to club action before Christmas but his ankle has continued to give him pain during training sessions and, after further tests, his surgeon last week revealed that even with another operation it would never be strong enough to cope with professional rugby.See the full content of this document
