PASSENGERS' travel plans have again been thrown into chaos after Britain's main rail union announced five days of strikes that could shut down much of the network.

The Rail Maritime and Transport union (RMT) said signal staff would be called out on strike for 24 hours from noon on Friday, 21 July, and for 48 hours from noon on Thursday, 27 July.
