HAVING paid a world record dollars 4 million per leg for an unraced two-year-old colt, Coolmore agent Demi O'Byrne was rather stating the obvious when he said of his blue-blooded purchase: "He'd better be good!"

O'Byrne, acting for the Irish racing tycoons John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derek Smith, stunned the bloodstock industry this week by bidding dollars 16m for the bay son of Forestry and Magical Masquerade in a ding-dong sales battle with Coolmore's arch-rivals, the Sheikh Mohammed-led Godolphin.
