Summary
THEY are cats not only with nine lives, but nine watts. Scientists genetically modified three kittens so they emit a dark red glow under ultraviolet rays, a breakthrough which could help to develop treatments for human genetic diseases.
The white Turkish Angora cats were born this year after a cloning procedure in which scientists manipulated a gene in order to alter their skin colour. The gene, which produces a red fluorescent protein, means the kittens appear to give off a red glow. The cats do not shine in the dark, but their ears, noses and places where fur cover is minimal, take on a dull red colour.See the full content of this document
