SCOTLAND can revive its reputation as a power in golf if it seizes the opportunity presented by hosting the 2014 Ryder Cup match at Gleneagles as a catalyst for change, according to Sandy Jones, the chief executive of the Professional Golfers Association and a member of the Ryder Cup board.

Acutely aware of the dearth of Scots in the world's top 100 - there is only one, Colin Montgomerie - as well as the threadbare presence at this season's majors, Jones believes it's still possible for Scotland over the next eight years to compete effectively again on the international stage, provided the country makes the most of the chance to showcase the game in the build-up to 2014.
