A TEN-year contract to help Japan's potato growers improve quality and yields has been signed by SAC, formerly the Scottish Agricultural College, with Calbee Potatoes.

Most crisps in Japan, a major part of Calbee's business, are made from the home-grown crop. But average yield of crisping varieties in Japan is about 37 tonnes per hectare, compared to 45-47 tonnes in the UK.
