ALEX Salmond used his first foreign trip as First Minister yesterday to set out a strongly pro-European vision for Scotland, insisting that he wanted to play a much bigger role in Europe than his predecessors.

Mr Salmond declared that Europe was "central" to his vision for Scotland and that he wanted to recapture Scotland's "sense of internationalism".
