HE was the star pupil of his year but James Blair never got the medal that recognised his academic brilliance. A shortage of gold caused by post-war austerity meant Dr Blair held the Harris Gold Medal for Dux - the High School of Dundee's top honour - in name only.
In the decades since 1946, Dr Blair gave up hope of ever receiving the award.
