DIRECT trains between Scotland and Europe are expected to resume next year - but they will carry freight rather than passengers.

Railfreight firm EWS announced yesterday it had acquired a second Scottish terminal, at Grangemouth, and trains should run through the Channel tunnel several times a week by mid-2008.
