PETROL prices in Scotland are higher than in the rest of the UK and rising faster than previously thought, according to a survey conducted by The Scotsman which found the national average has reached almost 92p for a litre of unleaded.

Even drivers in urban Scotland now face the prospect of GBP 1-a- litre prices by the end of the year. Motoring organisations admit prices are likely to break through the GBP 1 barrier - equivalent to GBP 4.50 a gallon - but admit there is little consumers can do as high demand for oil continues to send prices skyward.
