MURRAYFIELD will mark the end of an exciting adventure for most of the 176 rugby players that take to the national stadium tomorrow in the Scottish Hydro Electric Cup Finals, but for one member of the Melrose team the term 'adventure' is something of an under- statement.

James King left school in Berwick to become a full-time rugby player with the Borders after helping his home town club lift the SRU Shield at Murrayfield in 2005, as a 17-year-old. But in recent years he has suffered redundancy as the Reivers were shut down, spent six months playing in New Zealand, then a year in Italian rugby, a return to Melrose, the heartbreak of losing a former teammate to the L'Aquila earthquake and then taken a break from it all to work on yachts in Monaco.
