PAUL Lawrie, the Open champion of 1999, admitted yesterday he would return reluctantly to centre stage at Carnoustie this week when the spotlight of attention focuses on the last European golfer to lift the Claret Jug.
After completing 72 holes at the Barclays Scottish Open on three over par, Lawrie conceded: "The spotlight isn't something I crave. I would rather be at the back of a room than the front. I don't particularly enjoy being in the limelight. But I don't think I'll have much choice at Carnoustie.
