THE crisis-hit children's charity at the centre of an investigation into its financial affairs last night vowed to retain its independence as it revealed staff working on a failed fundraising campaign are set to lose their jobs.

Trustees of Edinburgh's Sick Kids Friends Foundation have admitted it may have to oust up to nine people working on a GBP 15 million campaign to raise funds for a new children's hospital, just days after health chiefs declared they would be taking a "central role" in the running of the charity and its fundraising drive.
