DUNCAN Hamilton, fellow columnist of this parish, is always worth reading. One of the bright young hopes of the first Scottish parliament, he stepped down in 2003 to get a life, but is still a serious thinker in the Nationalist interest.

Ruminating on the forthcoming Holyrood poll, Mr Hamilton used this space on Tuesday to state: "This election is not about independence, it is about the management of a devolved Scotland."
