AS CELTIC discovered last season, nostalgia is sometimes better left in the past. When the Parkhead club decided to take the survivors of their 1967 European Cup triumph in Lisbon with them as guests to the Champions League tie against Benfica, their return to the Portuguese capital turned sour in the shape of a 3-0 defeat.

So while Colin Stein was as grateful as any of Rangers' 1972 European Cup-Winners' Cup squad to be on the Ibrox club's charter flight to Barcelona yesterday, he was anxious their presence did not soften the focus of Walter Smith's current side for the Champions League job in hand at the Nou Camp tonight.
