Such a Spectacle of Dribbles From the New Double-Act

Summary

AS THE Scottish-English thing turns nasty, with racist rants in the English press and violent assaults on the streets of Scotchland, it's time for us all to turn to a couple of clowns that Scots and Englanders can laugh at together. Yes, bring on Broon and Cameron. Let's hoot as the Chancer at the Exchequer and the Tory leader try to out-footer each other. Dave dribbled in from the right to the centre to claim that Broon watched the Engerland-Sweden game with the suits in a corporate box. Broon nearly nutmegged himself as he claimed he'd travelled to the game with proper beer-swilling fans while the Davester had jessied in on a jet.

Leaving aside the question of how they came by tickets so easily, this amusing spectacle reminds us of how valuable football is as a safety valve for childish haverings. Adult haverings, however, remain the province of politics. The Scots don't want Cameron for prime minister because he's a Tory. The English don't want Broon because he's Scottish.
