HOLYROOD and its immediate environs were busy yesterday, with the farming industry out in force. The main event was the "dairy summit", organised by the Scottish government to address the problems faced by milk producers.
Two decades ago there were around 5,000 farms in Scotland, most of them family-run, producing milk. The latest official statistics declare that this total has shrunk to marginally over 1,300 as of the end of last year.
