MARKS & Spencer has lost its much-coveted crown as the UK's largest clothing retailer, to the supermarket chain Asda.

Industry figures for the 12 weeks to 25 July show that Asda now has a leading 9.4 per cent share of the clothing market - up almost a third on the previous quarter.
