IT WOULD not take a quantum leap of imagination for the average rugby aficionado to picture John Hartson wearing the No8 jersey for Wales, crashing his way powerfully through a packed defence. Had his schoolmasters in Swansea had their way, that might have been the scenario for one of Cymru's most popular and successful sporting sons.

Hartson's devotion and natural attraction to the round ball, however, has seen him proudly wearing his country's No9 shirt in 45 internationals, scoring 14 goals, and becoming one of Wales' most decorated and well-paid footballers.
