COUNCIL officials have avoided a pupil revolt by finding a new teacher to keep a small island school open.

Children and parents feared the single-teacher Craigston Primary in Barra would have to close when Western Isles Council could not find a temporary replacement for the headteacher who is on long- term sick leave. The council planned to move the 11 pupils several miles to Eoligarry for classes, prompting concern that the school could be closed permanently.
