THE Conservative conference in Bournemouth closed yesterday with a glimpse of what could be the party's future, in the form of Jessica Lever.

At 17, she was the youngest woman ever to address a Tory conference. Following in the auspicious footsteps of the former leader William Hague, who was 16 when he gave his first conference speech, she used her address to harangue older party colleagues for not doing enough to woo young and would-be voters. "I want politics to matter to my friends but it's up to the politicians to make it matter," Ms Lever told the party faithful, most of whom are old enough to be her grandparents.
