At a time when the BBC is under pressure on all fronts - from Rupert Murdoch's empire to outraged indie music fans - it's certainly brave of them to launch a major new adaptation of Tropic of Cancer, Henry Miller's controversial novel about having sex with prostitutes in Paris, which was the subject of a famous obscenity trial. And on a Sunday evening too!

Ah. Right. This new series isn't named after that tropic of Cancer; it's your actual 22,835 mile long northern border of the tropical region of the globe. Well, now I feel silly. The clue should have been in the starring role of Simon Reeve, a fearfully nice adventurer and writer chap who has previously completed televised tours of the equator and tropic of Capricorn.
