Revelations: Talking to the Dead Channel 4

ALTHOUGH I'd be the first to confront a medium with accusations of charlatanism - and by "confront" I mean "sneer impotently from the safe distance of my living room" - I was actually quite pleased that Revelations: Talking to the Dead took a more even-handed approach to this much-pilloried racket. Mocking mediums and those who choose to believe them is all too easy, which is why most documentaries on the subject end up as pointless, circular arguments. In this case, however, director Richard Alwyn went into a thriving spiritualist church in Walthamstow with a healthily sceptical yet cautiously open mind. His gently ruminative demeanour reaped far more revealing results than had he barged in and accused everyone of being mental.
