I AM being interrogated by Richard Hawley. "Do you want to win the Lottery?" he says in that gruff but good-natured Sheffield accent of his. Er, yes, I say. "Why?" he shoots back. Because I'd have lots of money so wouldn't have to worry about the mortgage, and could go on holiday a lot more, etc. There is a brief pause. "You should really think about it, man," he says, and hoots with laughter.

Why are we talking about this? Because I've inquired, as others have before me, why this 38-year-old singer-songwriter said no to Robbie Williams when he asked Hawley to be his musical partner. Hawley's answer is to interrogate me about the Lottery. "Where would you be going from and where would you be going to?" he continues. "Do you think the people you were going to would welcome you with open arms? No they f***ing wouldn't.
