IT'S BEEN A bad couple of weeks for David Cameron, British politics' very own Mr Potato Head. First off was the news that the Tory leader's poll ratings had slumped following Gordon Brown's coronation. Then there was the criticism that he'd got his priorities wrong by high-tailing it off to Rwanda while his constituents were flooded out of their homes.

Finally, and perhaps most seriously, came the cries of the donors. Yesterday the businessman Sir Tom Cowie, who has donated over GBP 630,000 to the Conservatives in the last six years, said that he would not be giving any more money to the party, describing David Cameron as an "arrogant old Etonian" and saying he was "very, very disappointed" with the Tory leader.
