MICHELLE Thomson, the Scottish Women's Amateur champion and a member of the Great Britain and Ireland side which faces the USA in the Curtis Cup match at St Andrews later this week, has been selected to receive specialist tuition from former Open champion Paul Lawrie.

Few professionals put as much back in at the grassroots level of the game as the winner at Carnoustie in 1999. His latest initiative is to assist half a dozen aspiring amateur and professional players from the Aberdeen area who will get the chance to learn from a major winner how to progress their careers.
