Summary
ASK Central has received a GBP 223 million bid approach from the owners of PizzaExpress, sparking a fight for the biggest slice of the pizza and pasta restaurant market. ASK said the 220p-per-share cash proposal from private equity firm TDR Capital and Capricorn Ventures, which also owns Nando's chicken restaurants, was "extremely attractive". ASK's shares jumped 10 per cent to a year high of 209 pence. However, ASK also said it would continue to back an agreed cash-and-shares deal with The Restaurant Group, currently worth 184p per share including dividends from both firms, at least until the TDR team made a firm proposal.
