THE union leader at the centre of Edinburgh's refuse collection row has told The Scotsman that the city's binmen have nothing to apologise for and insisted the dispute could have been headed off months ago.

Stephen MacGregor, head of the city council branch of the Unite union, said the "shambolic" handling of wage negotiations by senior officials was to blame for the impasse.
