Universities Call for an Extra Gbp 168m

SCOTLAND'S universities want an extra GBP 168 million from the Scottish Executive to increase student numbers, improve facilities and pay for lecturers' wage rises.

The increase would be worth 15 per cent above the rate of inflation and bring about a rise in state funding for the sector to GBP 1.2 billion a year by 2011.
