TIGER Woods again demonstrated his complete mastery of championship golf in the 88th US PGA at Medinah yesterday when he eschewed mistakes, took advantage of birdie opportunities as they arose and putted beautifully to collect his 12th major title.

Tiger was in such total command of his own game - and the tournament - that the five-stroke gap between him and the rest of the field in Chicago resembled a canyon. Shaun Micheel, the 2003 US PGA winner, was closest to the champion on 13 under par. Woods' 68 for 270 matched his low scoring at Hoylake but was one shot shy of the record 19-under total he set in winning the Open at St Andrews in 2000.
