LABOUR ministers yesterday offered half-hearted apologies to Walter Wolfgang, the 82-year-old activist ejected from the party's conference for daring to heckle Jack Straw over the war in Iraq.

While Cabinet members were wheeled out to offer their regrets over the manhandling of Mr Wolfgang, a Jewish refugee who fled Nazi Germany, the Prime Minister made it clear he would not meet him.
