PLANS to make it easier for teachers to get the qualifications needed to take up senior management roles in schools will be published today by Scottish ministers. The Executive wants to introduce greater flexibility into the system as part of moves to encourage more people to become headteachers. Since August, all teachers appointed to their first headteacher post must have met the so-called "Standard For Headship" as part of the Executive's drive to improve the quality of leadership in Scotland's schools. One way of doing that is to complete the Scottish Qualification for Headship (SQH).
However, members of the profession have complained that the current system, which can take between two and four years to complete, is too "rigid" and does not take account of individual family circumstances.See the full content of this document
