BANISH all thoughts of Dynasty, and don't even consider working the Melanie Griffith Working Girl look. The 21st-century shoulder pad (as seen on the Balmain catwalk) is exaggerated, sculptural, futuristic and not for the faint-hearted.
Where shoulder pads of yore were designed to create a crisp, balanced silhouette, the aim with 2009's version should be to look as eccentric as possible.
